Affinity’s Support For Dementia Carers

One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime and many of us will care for someone with dementia.

We know that caring can be rewarding, but it can also present challenges. Affinity has partnered with national charity Dementia Carers Count to offer our members access to valuable advice and support from experts in dementia care. Carers may need different kinds of support as their circumstances change. Dementia Carers Count is there to support carers with practical and emotional support, whenever it is needed and for as long as necessary.

The Dementia Carers Count service complements our own general non-employment support work for members and our state benefits advice service perfectly; we strongly recommend it to any members who have or anticipate a need for support.

Annual membership, which costs just £35, gives you unlimited access to support from the charity’s Carer Clinic. The service gives members access to:

  • An online question and answer service: If you have a question or would like some personal support or advice, you can use our ‘ask a question’ option to receive personalised advice from one of our experts. The Dementia Carers Count expert team includes clinical psychologists, nurse consultants, social workers, and advice and advocacy specialists.
  • One-to-one telephone appointments: you can book a personal one-to-one phone call with an expert from the team.
  • One-to-one video appointments: you can also book a personal one-to-one video with an expert from the team.
  • Access to the Virtual Carers Centre: You’ll also get access to a wealth of support in the charity’s Virtual Carers Centre, including information, podcasts and videos.

Together with Dementia Carers Count, we want to make sure that everyone caring for someone with dementia knows that they are not alone. All dementia carers should feel valued, supported and heard. By registering for this service, you will not only gain access to support for yourself, but you will help ensure that Dementia Carers Count can be there for other carers too.
